The Last Train

On Sunday 24th June 2018, the final day of the Ffestiniog Railway's "Hunslet 125" gala, "Linda" and "Blanche" were scheduled to work three trains from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog as part of the celebrations. Waiting for well over an hour for another train at the level crossing at Minffordd we were somewhat surprised to find it headed by the "twins" running nearly two hours late! It transpired that the intense heat of the day had caused two occurrences of rail buckling, either side of this train, near Tan-y-Bwlch. Thus this, after much hard work by the S&T boys, became the last train of the day, others being cancelled. For the next few days Porthmadog became the hottest place in the UK, playing havoc with the Ffestiniog's timetables and resulting in all main line steam excursions running behind diesel pilots or substitutes.
