TfL has cut delays by nearly 38 per cent since 2011, following on from the Mayor setting a 30 per cent improvement target. A far-reaching programme to deliver this improvement has included:

  • The sustained investment in modernisation of Tube signalling, track and trains. On the Victoria, Jubilee and Northern lines, reliability has improved by 74 per cent, 67 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.

 The project, funded by a Heritage Lottery Fund grant in 2014, saw a basic industrial unit being replaced with a contemporary and visually stunning space which tells the history of what is now the South Tynedale Railway Heritage Attraction.

 Launching the project — entitled North Road Works Memories — the Head of Steam hopes to create a digital record of the works and the memories that that had connections with it.  Contributions can be made in person at the museum or online via the museum’s website.
 
The museum is also planning a number of events to mark the anniversary, concluding with an exhibition planned for early next year.

 The railway was planning to host a return to service celebration for the diesel-electric locomotive with a special event on March 19, however announced this week that it would be debuted at its July Diesel Steam Gala instead.

The first seven units of the 60 25kV units are due to be constructed at Kasado with the balance of the order being completed at Hitachi’s new facility at Newton Aycliffe.

In all, 60 units — 46 three-car and 24 four-car — are on order and are destined to operate on the south Glasgow suburban routes and from Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk High. The first units, initially ordered in late 2014, are scheduled to enter service from late 2017 onwards.

The Bromyard & Linton Light Railway is a one-mile narrow gauge railway that runs between Bromyard and the Linton Industrial estate and is rarely open to the public.

The Vale of Rheidol Railway’s Kerr Stuart Wren Class loco will call in to Linton & Bromyard on March 10 and 11 en route to a season in the south of England.

A1 Pacific No. 60163 is a big addition to the already star-studded line-up, which will see an A1 and an A3 engine steaming together for the first time in more than half a century.

Engineers had been working around-the-clock at the structure, near Girvan, since 9 January after flood-waters from Storm Frank scoured out the riverbed beneath the viaduct’s concrete pier bases.

Work to stabilise the viaduct has been carried out in challenging weather conditions with heavy rainfall and rapidly rising river levels hampering engineers.
