The three and a half mile line to Groombridge Station was reinstated back in August of 1997.
To kickstart these celebrations the railway will host its annual spring steam gala on April 22nd and 23rd, with industrial steam being the focus of the weekend.

A forced entry was made to the main booking office, and all rooms were then accessed. The intruders also broke into the train which was stabled in the platform, targeting the buffet car and forcing entry into the buffet area, and a number of train windows were also smashed in the coaches, one of which dates back to the 1930's, so a very historic vehicle.

The three day festival takes place on March 3-5 at the famous West Yorkshire heritage railway, and looks to be an action-packed event with so many engines running up and down the historical 5-mile-long branch line.

Loughborough-based ‘9F’ No. 92214 is the third and final visitor announced for the gala which takes place on March 17-19, and features two other guest engines.
No. 92214 will be running alongside Ivatt ‘2MT’ 2-6-2T No. 41312, which is visiting courtesy of the Mid-Hants Railway, and will be its first visit to Severn Valley in over 16 years.

The depot features two inspection pits, lifting jacks and a ten-tonne overhead travelling crane to preserve the railway’s 20 diesel locomotives, all of which are more than 50 years old, with three even older than the railway’s newest steam locomotives.

Steam rides and footplate experiences will be the highlight of the week, which will run from February 18 - 26 where museum visitors will be able to either ride behind the iconic Flying Scotsman locomotive, or for the most dedicated fans, a chance to ride along in the cab with the driver.

Services will be operating between Froghall and Leekbrook and up on to the steeply graded Cauldon Lowe branch to Ipstones Loop and will offer visitors one of the steepest of climbs for locomotives on any heritage railway in the UK.
