The first award was the Siemens Signalling Award for the Horsted Keynes signal box and signalling project, which was jointly awarded to both the Bluebell and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The awarded was presented to the Bluebell Railway representatives by the managing director of London Underground Mark Wild. Bluebell were awarded the same signalling award for their work on the Kingscote signalling project in 2016.

As it stands, visitors to the railway travelling from Llangollen to Corwen have had to get off at a temporary halt just outside the town. Once completed, Corwen Central Station will boast a piece of Shropshire railway history. The team of volunteers working on the project are also restoring a former Weston Rhyn signal box, and fencing previously used at Gobowen station will be used at Corwen, adding to the heritage of the station.

The centre will have a number of extra uses including as a local community centre and a display space for local arts and craft events. The railway will also be using it as a training facility for their team of volunteer staff, a reception area for special occasions and a home for the railway's archives.

The railway has expressed its astonishment at the news which saw HLF withdraw their earmarked funding for the ambitious mainline project. HLF originally showed their interest in the project back in 2015 designating more than £9.5m, which was subject to a stage 2 submission which the railway had been preparing. Once completed, the project will reconnect the two halves of the Great Central Railway for the first time in more than 50 years. The project aims to carry the railway over the Midland Main Line, creating an 18-mile heritage line between Leicester and Nottingham.

Since then, the appeal has successfully raised over £57,000, most of which has been contributed by the membership, including one very substantial donation. The Railway has also successfully secured LEADER grant funding of £47,000, £34,000 of which is destined for the extension project. When added to the £57,000 LBR have now secured £91,000 in total and have £59,000 left to raise to reach their target of £150,000.

The shed, which has recently been constructed as part of a £1.65m redevelopment project on the railway, suffered spray paint attacks on the front and side of the building. It is thought that the individuals responsible also vandalised locations on Steine Street, the acts all occuring overnight between Monday and Tuesday last week.

The Heritage Action Zone scheme is run by Historic England, and will see a number of local authorities receive support on planning policy and community engagement for projects such as bringing neglected buildings or bridges back into use and developing heritage areas into tourist attractions. The scheme hopes to open up to grant funding and training for these areas in order to support the regeneration projects.

Julie and the film crew visited the AVR back in May to discuss the railway's ambitious development project for the restoration and operation of the line between Alnmouth and Alnwick, providing an additional tourist attraction for the area and to enlarge the district's tourism offering.
