The station has been awarded the Railway Heritage Trust Conservation Award at the National Rail Heritage Awards following its recent renovation by Network Rail. The project was made possible thanks to support from Carmarthenshire’s Built Heritage Team and significant grant funding from the Railway Heritage Trust. A plaque was unveiled at the station today (Friday 19 January) to celebrate its recent success.

The stand at King’s Cross will focus on the railway's heritage, showcasing two ‘Quarry Hunslet’ locomotives from the Victorian era – Hugh Napier and Velinheli. These diminutive but deceptively powerful steam engines were used to transport slate around the local quarries of Bethesda and Llanberis. Following a period of dereliction, they have now

The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) class V4 was a class of 2-6-2 steam locomotive designed by Sir Nigel Gresley for mixed-traffic use. It was Gresley's last design for the LNER before he died in 1941. The class V4s had similarities in their appearance and mechanical layout to the class V2s of which pioneer No. 4771 Green Arrow is preserved as a part of the National Collection. The line, which last summer ran timetabled trains along the 10-mile route for the first time in 45 years as part of a trial, has been a major achievement for the Swanage Railway team who completed the work on the stretch from Norden to connect with the mainline at Wareham.

This grant is towards the capital costs of the CHR Weston Wharf extension project, the aim of which is to extend the existing running line from Gas Works Bridge to Weston Wharf. This would extend the passenger line to 1¾ miles long and connect Oswestry town centre to a station at Weston Wharf, which is adjacent to Stonehouse Brewery and their visitor centre.

D2152 on the Swindon & Cricklade

The engine has stayed at the base of the S&C Railway for the last 32 years in private ownership so when the locomotive went up for sale, the railway seized the opportunity to add it to their permanent roster of engines.

The incident, which occurred on Christmas Day, saw vandals spraying paint along the sides of two of the railway's heritage carriages on the only day that the SVR was closed over the festive period.

The project which was part-funded by a £1.75 million heritage lottery grant and run by the Colne Valley Railway Preservation Society will secure the railway's long term future after it was announced that the charity society had purchased the site in Castle Hedingham where the railway is based.
