Slated for permanent withdrawal from the main lines this year, John Cameron's Gresley A4 Pacific no 60009 "Union of South Africa" looks in absolutely superb condition both externally and in working order. We see this magnificent machine passing through Guildford and then powering away from a 13-minute delayed departure at the water-stop at Shalford with a towering exhaust as the crew make an all-out effort to regain time with the heavy "Orient Express" Pullman cars, an effort which saw the train back on time by Redhill, 18 miles further on.
